In a few very rare cases, the reviews posted here will be based on information and testimonials given by other users of these blenders. I will make you two promises right here and now though:

  1. Nothing is held back. If a blender has a downside, I will mention it.
  2. Each review accounts for how easy the blender is to use. We test the pitcher, the motor, the base assembly, how tightly the lid fits, and so on. If anything doesn’t perform well, we will know (and so will you).

Ninja Technology 6 Blades1100 WattsSafe to washIncludes Safety-Operation Feature

At $139, the Ninja BL660 is among the most well-received blenders. It is currently my machine of choice, and I use it in my kitchen on a daily basis. What I particularly like about it is the versatility that it delivers: I use it to mix dough, make juices from all sorts of fruits (even the ones many other blenders have trouble with, such as bananas), and crushing ice. It handles all of those with ease, and I believe this can be attributed to one particular feature.

I’m of course talking about the 6 blades Ninja technology. I’m not much of a geek when it comes to this sort of stuff, but I do know a sturdy piece of equipment when I see one. The blades are both big and sharp, and they are positioned in a way that no matter how much content you put in your pitcher (which by the way can take up to 72 oz.), you’ll feel comfortable that everything will get blended properly, even the contents near the very top of the pitcher. This is precisely the reason why we’ve included the BL660 at the very top of our Ninja blender reviews.

What do I like about it in particular?

My favorite part is just how well it handles ice when making smoothies. The fact that my previous blender was unable to handle such a basic task was exactly what made me go and have a look-around for a different blender, and the Ninja BL660 is what caught my attention – all customer reviews seemed to point towards one thing in particular: it does a tremendous job at blending even the toughest ingredients.

Cleaning

The fact that it is a single serve also means that there really isn’t a whole bunch of cleaning up for you to do after you’ve finished using the blender. I’m sure you’ve had this problem: you really want to use your blender to make something, but you get deterred by the idea of having to wash it later on, and so ultimately the device is hardly ever used. This isn’t the case here – washing is extremely easy, the materials are such that everything comes off of them with ease with just a bit of water (no scrubbing at all involved). Plus, it’s dishwasher proof. I don’t own a dishwasher unfortunately, but many of you will undoubtedly do.

Construction & Performance

The BL660 also includes 4 suction cups at the bottom of the blender, making it stick really hard to your working surface. You could easily give it a gentle shake and it won’t move at all, so you won’t ever find yourself having to hold down the device with all your force during the blending process just to keep it in place.

First time I bought it I thought I would be using it for smoothies only. But as soon as I realized just how powerful of a machine it was, I suddenly started using it for literally everything – coffee drinks, fresh sauces in just 10 seconds, even soups. I just started throwing things into it just for the sake of blending it and seeing what it would taste like.

After you use this Ninja blender for some time, you’ll also notice just how sharp the blades tend to stay despite use and even abuse. Like I said above, I love making smoothies, so blending ice as well as frozen fruit is something I do on a daily basis. And despite that, the blades have still remained amazingly sharp after many months of use – this really surprised me and I honestly didn’t expect it from a blender in this price range. But wait, there’s more.ninja-bl660-blender-review-pic2

You might have gotten used to food getting stuck at the bottom of your pitcher near the bottom blades. In the case of the Ninja BL660, the blade layout seems to have been done very smartly, as I don’t remember a single instance of me having to reach down the pitcher with a spoon and spend a good minute trying to scratch out what’s left at the bottom. These are the small details that you really should be paying attention to when buying a blender as they will ultimately determine how happy you’ll be using the equipment in the long run. One last thing I wanted to mention now, and you’ll find it exciting if you like to blend seeds of any kind.

Click here to read customer reviews and ratings of the Ninja BL660

In many blender models, the bottom blades are set at a height which makes it impossible to blend a small quantity of seeds (flax for example). This is because the blades are usually located an inch or so above the bottom of the pitcher, so if you were to put in a spoon or two of seeds, the blades would simply spin right above them and you’d need to manually give the blender a shake to have a chance of cutting through those seeds. With the Ninja BL660 this is not an issue – the blades are positioned low enough so that even the smallest quantity of contents will get properly taken care of.

Single Serve Cups

The Ninja BL660 comes with two single serve cups, at 32 oz. each. If you’re in the mood for making a small smoothie, simply load up a cup with the ingredients, close the lid, attach it to the blender in place of the main big pitcher, and you’re done in a few seconds.

What Others Have To Say About This Ninja Blender

Online customer ratings of this product. are consistent with what I have written in this Ninja blender review. The vast majority of people praise it for just how well it handles ice, fruit and dough, and point out just how powerful the motor and how sharp the blades are. As of this writing, the Ninja BL660 has a total of 92 customer reviews on Amazon, 70 of which have rated it at 5 out of 5 stars! It’s among the best-rated blenders on the entire internet as far as I know.

Some Minor Con’s

All good Ninja blender reviews should contain a “con’s” section, so here it is. While I was able to list Pro’s without any difficulty, I actually had to pause for a good 10 minutes to figure out what to write in the Con’s section. If there is one thing I could mention it would be that the motor is very loud due to it being 1100 Watts and extremely powerful. I’m not sure if this qualifies as a con though, as I’m sure no one buys a blender hoping that it will be quiet. Plus, the noisiness in this case is very well justified.

Perhaps one thing worth mentioning is that it isn’t that ideal for making green smoothies. In some cases the blender will leave small chunks of vegetables in despite you sincerely trying to get rid of them. I’m not sure what causes this, but I do know that a few other people have had the same problem with this blender. So if you’re primarily interested in making veggie smoothies, then I would most likely look at a different model that is reviewed on this website. Other than that though, the blades cut through everything with relentless force and provide you with a smoothie/desert of perfect consistency.

Pro’s

  • An extremely powerful, almost industrial-quality motor. Some websites lists the power of the BL660 motor as being 1,000 Watts, but that’s in fact not true – it’s 1100 which is clearly stated on the box and the instruction. If you’re looking for POWER, then this is where it is at.
  • A total of 6 modes of operation you can switch between. Whether you want to crush ice, mix dough, or blend fruits of various shapes and sizes – there’s a mode of operation which was designed with your goal in mind.
  • The touch-pad controls are very convenient and responsive. Whether you want a margarita, smoothie, or a desert – all it takes is one touch of your finger.
  • The pitcher, despite being very large and durable, is actually really light-weight. Very easy to move around, clean, and handle in general. A great plus.
  • SUPER sharp blades. Go through ice as if it were nothing but soft fruit, and I’m not exaggerating.
  • Perfect for making fruit smoothies, dough, deserts.
  • Dishwasher-approved and very easy to clean by hand.

The Ninja NJ600 Professional Blender is another solid product that made it to my top 3 reviews list. As you might know, the best way to determine whether a blender is worth it’s price (which is $99 in this case) is to see just how well it manages to crush ice.

I do not own the NJ600, but I have used it on over a dozen occasions. I was particularly interested to see what would happen if I loaded the whole 72 ounce blender jar with ice cubes and then turned on the 1,000 Watt motor for no longer than 10 seconds. Here is what the results look like (click the picture to enlarge):

ice test

Beautiful isn’t it? The entire bag of ice cubes was crushed into perfectly fine ice, exactly like what you would find in your backyard on Christmas eve. The ice had perfect consistency with no lumps whatsoever. The smoothies you can make with this are absolutely delicious and on par with what you’d expect to have served in the finest restaurants, assuming you choose your ingredients well of course. :) None of the other Ninja blender reviews here have as great a picture as the one above, which is something I hope to fix in the future.

Blender Construction

As is the case with the BL660 reviewed further above, the NJ600 features Ninja’s patented 6-blade technology. The blades are divided into 3 pairs, situated at different heights across the stem. The beauty of this design is that all the contents of the pitcher get blended evenly across, so you won’t have to worry that only what’s on the bottom will get the sharp-blade treatment.

Other than the ginormous size of the pitcher, I appreciated just how few elements there are in this blender. You might ask why this is good, and here’s the answer: the fewer elements there are, the lower the chance of any leakage occurring or any part breaking.

Once mounted, all the elements fit very tightly and there is no shaking or instability involved. I never found myself having to worry that once I fire up the powerful 1,000 Watt motor, I’d have parts or bits of food flying around the kitchen. The whole construction of this Ninja blender is very sturdy, from top to bottom.

If you were to read the top Ninja NJ600 customer reviews at Amazon, you’ll quickly confirm everything I’m saying here. Here’s just one of the 170+ 5 star customer reviews this blender received:

Tonight is our first night using the Ninja blender and so far this thing is awesome!!!!! Seriously. It blended my frozen fruit smoothie in 30 seconds pretty well. It’s not clumpy at all and we are even using cheap, narrow straws successfully.

Performance

What I particularly enjoyed about the NJ600 is that you can make equally good green AND fruit smoothies. A few other Ninja blenders reviewed on this this will do well with only either of these two, but this particular model will do a great job regardless of the ingredients of your smoothie. I found it can handle ice, frozen fruits, fresh carrots / celery / spinach, and all types of fresh fruits equally as well. There are never any bits in the final product and the smoothie is neither too watery nor too thick for my taste – just where it should be. How about the lid?

Click here for customer reviews and current pricing of the Ninja NJ600 Blender.

As I’ve already mentioned, all the pieces of this Ninja blender fit very tightly together. The lid is very easy to attach to the top of the pitcher and won’t cause you any trouble – simply line up the two /\ shaped markings together and the thing will close-down very firmly. Regarding speed, the blender doesn’t disappoint either:

You get to choose from across three different speed modes. Granted this isn’t as complex as the 6 various modes in the Ninja BL660 reviewed above, however I honestly can’t think of a situation where you’d find yourself wishing this blender had more than three modes. In fact, 2 modes are more than enough for the vast majority of uses. My friend who owns this blender, and at who’s house I used it, had an interesting thing to say.

He basically stated that since he got the NJ600, he’s been buying a ton more vegetables and fruits on a daily basis. Before his purchase, he would never buy anything fresh simply because he knew it would go to waste as he didn’t like to eat raw fruits and/or vegetables. He always preferred smoothies, but figured he’d need to spend at least a $200 for a blender if he wanted good results. Guess Ninja proved him wrong :)

Customer Reviews Of the Ninja NJ600

The customer reviews at Amazon.com are somewhat mixed (more on this in a moment), with the average rating being 3.5 out of 5 stars across over 340 reviews at the moment I’m writing this (May 2013). 170 customers rated it 5/5 stars, 40 customers gave it 4/5 stars, and the remainder of votes rated it between 1-3 out of 5 stars. I must admit that I was somewhat surprised as I’ve used quite a few blenders in my time (including commercial-grade blenders worth $400 and more), and I found the NJ600 to be an excellent product. So I decided to do a little digging to find out what might be the reason. After around an hour of research, I figured out what was the issue.

Basically, it seems that some people were complaining about the consistency of their smoothies. These people are of the opinion that the consistency isn’t as smooth as they would like it to be.nj600 reviews After doing a little further research, it seems that former models of the Ninja NJ600 had a somewhat lower blade quality, which resulted in some smoothies not being blended well enough. I have contacted the manufacturer of Ninja Blenders however to ask about this, and from what they are telling me, this issue has been corrected and higher-quality blades have been introduced. I would therefore disregard any customer reviews which state that the NJ600 does not blend to a smooth enough texture, as long as these reviews were from the year 2012 or earlier – models from 2013 and onward have better quality blades, and I can attest to that since the blender that I used was purchased in February this year.

With that in mind, the vast majority of customers rated it 4 or 5 out of 5 stars. Here is one of my favorite customer reviews of this blender:

Some Pro’s

Let me quickly summarize the good things about this Ninja blender:

  • Very powerful motor, will cut through anything.
  • Sharp blades. WARNING! Do not touch (seriously, just a slight direct touch of the blade could injure your finger)
  • Very solid and large pitcher.
  • Cuts through the entire contents of the pitcher evenly thanks to the 3×2 innovative blade placement system.
  • Delivers great, even consistency. No grains.
  • Safety mechanism: the motor will not run unless the lid of the pitcher is firmly locked into place.
  • Makes you want to live healthier due to just how much fun making a smoothie becomes thanks to it.
  • Hummus, green smoothies, fruit smoothies, nuts, ice – it’ll blend it all, and blend it good.

The Ninja QB900B isn’t exclusively a blender. It’s a blender slash food processor, however I decided to review it because it’s blending potential is absolutely outstanding for a $40 product. I know that not everyone is willing to pay $100+ for a blender, so I thought this was the appropriate thing to do.

What did I like about it in particular?

Simply put, this is the best Ninja product in its price range if what you are looking for is primarily making veggie or fruit smoothies. Of course this doesn’t mean that it can’t handle other types of tasks – it’s just as good if you are making waffles, some deserts like muffins, sandwich spreads etc.

While the consistency is not picture-perfect (that would be hard to expect from a $40 blender), it really is good enough that you won’t feel like you’ve wasted your money. It’s extremely durable as well for such a tiny little thing – customers report having used it for many years on end without having to deal with any glitches nor having to service the blender.

Blender Construction

When you open your package, you’ll see four separate elements:

  1. The main 400 Watt motor unit.
  2. The “Quad Blades”
  3. Blender Container
  4. The lid, which you can also use for storing your blended food/product inside the container/pitcher.

Apart from the blades, which are made from metal obviously, everything else is made from solid, durable plastic. The good thing about this is that it makes the Ninja QB900B very to clean. And no, don’t worry – the plastic parts are NOT easy to break. When you hear “plastic” you probably think of some cheap materials. This really isn’t the case here – we’re dealing with the “tough” type of plastic, so providing you don’t throw your blender around your kitchen, it’ll serve you for years.

Performance

As I’ve already mentioned this is quite a piece of equipment for the price you’ll be paying. It was very easy to assemble, and I encountered no frustrating loose parts whatsoever, which again I found surprising for a blender in this price range. The motor is also decently strong despite it being “only” 400 Watts. What can you use it for though?

Click here for customer reviews and ratings of the Ninja QB900B.

Don’t let it’s small size fool you. This is a surprisingly strong and capable blender, and it’ll handle everything you throw at (into) it. Whether it’s ice, veggies / onions, bananas, ingredients for a lasagna sauce, garlic or tomatoes. There’s one thing I want you to keep in mind though.

If the ingredients you are trying to blend need a lot of working, you might need to use a spoon to scrape the insides of the container once or twice in order to make sure everything is evenly cut. This won’t always be the case, however be aware that the size of the blades on this unit isn’t on the high end of things, so the blades can’t really reach that which is stuck to the walls. This is pretty much the only con of the QB900B that I can think of.

Cleaning

As I’ve already mentioned, all the parts are made from solid plastic, except for the four blades. That’s why I never encountered any problems during clean up – in most cases it was enough to just rinse the inside and the lid with water and some soap on my hands – didn’t even need a brush. One piece of advice I’d like to give you at this point is to always clean it right after using it. Don’t let the parts soak in water for a few hours, as in some cases (and with some foods) this can lead the plastic soaking up a bit of the smell, particularly when onions or garlic are involved.

This has never happened to me personally with this blender, but I’ve heard of a few people experiencing the problem, who later got rid of the odor anyway, though it required some pretty serious brushing / soaking in soapy water. Just make sure to wash the unit within 30 minutes tops of being finished with it and you’ll never have to deal with this problem.

Customer Reviews and Opinions

As of this writing, the Ninja QB900B has well over 300 customer reviews on Amazon, of which a whopping 222 QB900B reviewsrated it as 5 out of 5 stars. Most of the remaining customers rated it a 4 out of 5, and only a handful gave it less than 4 stars.

There’s a member at Amazon who is known for writing extremely extensive reviews for many products she purchases. Her screen name is “Stacy Amazon Junkie,” and here is a snippet of what she had to say about the Ninja QB900B in her review:

I can say with 100% honesty that I have never been happier with a kitchen appliance purchase. (….) If you want to dice up some onions and mix up a sauce; crush ice for a cocktail or stir up a base, the Ninja (QB900B) will be your best friend. Easy to clean, durable, and fairly powerful, this is a great investment, especially as a first blender for your college-bound children or your first apartment. It will both save you time and help you expand your abilities in the kitchen.

Like Stacy says: if you’re looking for a cheap yet powerful and capable blender, go for the QB900B. If, however, you can spare $100 to $150 in total, then you can get a far more powerful piece of equipment by simply purchasing one of the other Ninja Blenders reviewed on this website.
